Tough old birds, wild turkeys flourish

On a warm, misty, spring morning a cameo clad hunter huddles beneath the upturned roots of a fallen tree. In the distance a great horned owl calls. Suddenly the silence is broken by the strident gobble of a male wild turkey welcoming the dawn with the same exuberance as the farmyard rooster.
