Then and now: A close watch on jail food budget

CLARION In August of 1973, Mrs. James Cumberland was worried about rising food costs and how those increasing expenses would affect her ability to feed 13 people at an average cost of $1.45 per day, or about 48 cents per meal. Cumberland’s concerns were shared by the Clarion County Board of Commissioners as the 13 people Cumberland was feeding county jail inmates.
