HARRISBURG – The 814 area code is expected to run out of phone numbers in 2012, and the Public Utility Commission is considering several options to create a new area code for the region. At its Jan. 28 meeting, the commission voted to hold hearings in the area served by the 814 area code to receive public input on five proposals to solve the problem.
