The week of the hawk

February opened as the week of the hawks. On Groundhog day, I was traveling west on the river hill when a large bird sailed across the roadway ahead of me and landed on the steep slope to my left. As the bird landed I realized that I had seen a hawk stooping on prey. It must have been successful for I observed the bird picking at something in its talons.
