Fred called from New Jersey at about 8 a.m. on Feb. 12. He is my wife Peggy’s brother. The reason for his early morning call was the Greater Backyard Bird Count. Fred and his wife, Pat, were counting birds as he assumed we were. Pat is the ardent birder but I think birding is growing on Fred, too.
