Knox Lions honor Van Tassel

Knox Lions honor Van Tassel

KNOX -- Knox Lions Club March Student of the Month is Brianna Van Tassel a senior at Keystone High School who was presented with her certificate of achievement and monetary gift by Lion Bill Black.

Van Tassel was selected by her school for her activities and accomplishments both in and outside the classroom and in the community.

Among her many school activities, she participates in cheerleading, Keystone's National Honor Society, Student Government and choir.

Additionally, Van Tassel serves as the secretary for the Class of 2021 as well as the yearbook staff.

Her community activities include volunteer work at Charitable Deed's spaghetti dinners, church fish fries, Grace E.C. Church's Vacation Bible School and packing food to be distributed to those in need. She also came up with the idea regarding the Knox Community Spirit Parade which took place last fall in Knox along with the aid of Tiki Kahle.

After graduation Van Tassel plans to attend Clarion University to earn a degree in real estate.

Chartered by the Lion's International in 1953 with 15 members, the Knox organization's purpose is community service. The club sponsors Youth Soccer, the baseball association, Shippenville and Knox fire and ambulance companies, Youth Field Days, road cleanup, and the Salvation Army.

The club conducts an annual sight drive and helps to provide eyeglasses and hearing aids to those who cannot afford them.

The club conducts sight examinations at Keystone and Allegheny-Clarion Valley Schools each year for incoming kindergarten students. The club accepts used eyeglasses and hearing aids for redistribution to those in need.
