West Forest names 2019 top students
TIONESTA Christopher Pedersen was named valedictorian and Travis Swartz was the salutatorian for the Class of 2019 at West Forest High school in Tionesta.
Pedersen is the son of Julie and Chris Pedersen. He has one sibling, Lorraine.
He served as treasurer of the Class of 2019, vice-president of the National Honor Society and captain of Envirothon. He is also a member of the Foreign Language Club, Varsity Club, band, chorus, Drama Club, yearbook and gifted.
Pedersen participated in golf, basketball and baseball. He was also a member of the homecoming court.
Throughout his academic career, he has received the Presidential Excellence Gold Award, the Envirothon Award, the Lions Club Academic Award, the KSAC Scholarship, the Thomas D. Fulton Award, the Ruth and Vernon Taylor Valedictorian Award, the Moose Club Scholarship, the Bausch and Lomb Science Award, the President's Education Award and the American Legion Auxiliary Award.
Pedersen's future plans are to attend Penn State, Behrend and major in chemical engineering.
Swartz is the son of Kevin and Kelly Swartz. He has five sisters, Jessica, Megan, Morgan, Rebecca and Elizabeth.
He served as president and secretary of the National Honor Society, treasurer of Student Council and president of Drama Club. He also participated in Drama Club and baseball.
Throughout his academic career, he has received the Humanities/Social Studies Award, Senator Scott Hutchinson Good Citizenship Award, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 334 Award, Red Cross Blood Drive Scholarship, President's Educational Excellence Award, and the Ruth and Vernon Taylor Salutatorian Award.
Swartz's future plans are to attend Clarion University of Pennsylvania for secondary education mathematics.
