Fire destroys Hominy Ridge Lodge

BARNETT TWP. State police fire marshal and Tpr. Kathleen Watters of the state police barracks at Marienville reports a 7:03 p.m. Feb. 27 fire destroyed the Hominy Ridge Lodge located along State Route 36 in Barnett Township, Jefferson County.

Fire departments from three counties fought the blaze in Cook Forest.

The two-story building was a total loss, said Randy Parrett, chief of Marienville Volunteer Fire Department.

Parrett added that at least one vehicle parked nearby caught on fire.

Several people were home at the time of the fire and got safely out of the building, Parrett said.

No injuries were reported, but four people were displaced by the fire, 9-1-1 said.

The scene was cleared at about 10:30 p.m., according to 9-1-1.

Fire departments from Marienville, Sigel, Brookville, Pine Creek Township, Corsica and Farmington Township responded to the blaze. Jefferson County EMS ambulance was also on the scene.

The investigation is ongoing. The cause of the fire is not yet known, but appears to have started in the front of the building, which housed a small store. Damage is estimated at $500,000.

Child endangerment investigation

LIMESTONE TWP. Tpr. Dylan Jarrett reports an ongoing investigation of alleged child endangerment Feb. 25 in Limestone Township.

Clarion County Children and Youth Services reported poor living conditions to state police, starting the investigation.

Woman cited for harassment

SHIPPENVILLE Tpr. Jacob Beers reports a 39-year-old Shippenville woman faces charges of harassment at 12:05 a.m. Feb. 26 along North Street in Shippenville after she was allegedly involved in an altercation with a 28-year-old Shippenville man.

Two people cited

WASHINGTON TWP. Tpr. Tyler Lauer of the state police barracks at Marienville reports a 24-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man, both of the Tionesta area face charges of harassment at 8:25 p.m. Feb. 29 along Old Fryburg Road in Washington Township after they allegedly were involved in a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical altercation.

A 58-year-old Tionesta-area woman is identified as a victim in the incident.

The 24-year-old woman also is listed as a victim in the case.

Public drunkenness

MONROE TWP. Tpr. Ryan Drayer reports a 54-year-old Clarion woman faces charges of public drunkenness at 3:44 p.m. Feb. 25 at Walmart in Monroe Township. The suspect allegedly was creating a disturbance.

Car crash in Porter Township

PORTER TWP, -- Tpr John Dubovi reports Daniel J. Wallace, 24, New Castle, escaped injury at 12:36 a.m. Feb. 3 along State Route 66 in Porter Township when he lost control of his 2003 Ford Focus and struck an embankment.

Wallace was not wearing a seat belt. He was cited for a traffic law violation.

Knox teen injured

RICHLAND TWP. State police at Franklin report a Knox teenager was injured in a 2:30 p.m. Feb. 29 one-vehicle crash in Richland Township, Venango County.

The 16-year-old was driving east at a left curve on Whitehill Road at about when he lost control of his 2000 Yamaha WR400 motorcycle for unknown reasons and laid the vehicle on its side, police said.

The teenager took himself to UPMC Northwest for treatment.
