Fatal fire

EAST BRADY Tpr. Kathleen Watters, a state police fire marshal, reports an East Brady woman died after a fire Sunday morning, Jan. 12.

Jacquelyn Kubla, 74, died when the recliner she was sitting in in her apartment caught on fire between 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental and caused by a cigarette Kubla was smoking.

Watters said the apartment was filled with heavy smoke and the fire eventually self-extinguished.

Fire damage in the apartment was minimal and there were no other injuries.

The fire marshal noted Kubla was using oxygen at the time which contributed to the ignition of the fire.

New Bethlehem Police and East Brady Fire Department also responded to the scene.

Fire damages home

ELK TWP. Tpr. Kathleen Watters, a state police fire marshal, reports a 2:41 a.m. Jan. 10 fire along Pine City Road in Elk Township caused $100,000 in damage to a home owned by a 61-year-old woman.

Watters reports the cause of the fire appears to be a faulty floor lamp in the kitchen.

The woman was transported to UPMC Hospital in Seneca for treatment of smoke inhalation.

No other injuries were reported.

Firearms violations

ELK TWP. Tpr. Nicholas Gray reports an ongoing investigation of an alleged Jan. 4 incident along State Route 208 in Elk Township during which a known suspect allegedly failed to relinquish firearms as directed in a protection from abuse court order.

MONROE TWP. Tpr. Rodney Hotchkiss reports an ongoing investigation of an alleged incident at 8 a.m. Oct. 17, 209, at Walmart in Monroe Township, during which a known female suspect allegedly attempted to purchase a firearms by falsifying information on a transaction form.

DUIs alleged

CLARION TWP. Tpr. Ryan Drayer reports a 22-year-old Kennerdell woman faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol at 1:35 a.m. Nov. 2, 2019, along State Route 66 in Clarion Township after she was stopped for a traffic law violation.

CLARION TWP. Tpr. David McBride reports no one was injured in a 6:41 p.m. Dec. 25, 2019, two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Pioneer Road and U.S. Route 322 in Clarion Township.

Police report Steven Lutz, 52, Strattanville, allegedly turned his vehicle onto Pioneer Road and struck a vehicle stopped at a stop sign operated by Teresa McBride, 41, Strattanville.

McBride told police Lutz exited his vehicle and seemed impaired. Lutz allegedly looked at the crashed vehicles and said, "I don't have time for this" and left the scene.

Police report Lutz was arrested at his home shortly after the crash and faces charges of DUI.

PAINT TWP. Tpr. Tate Allison reports a 41-year-old Clarion man faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and driving under the influence of alcohol and/or a controlled substance at 1:34 p.m. Jan. 9 along U.S. Route 322 and Paint Boulevard in Paint Township.

The suspect was placed in the Clarion County Jail on an outstanding arrest warrant.

Custody order violations investigated

LIMESTONE TWP. Tpr. Ryan Wilson reports a child custody investigation was conducted at 2:50 p.m. Jan. 1 along Aaron Road in Limestone Township. The victim is a 47-year-old Mayport man. Both involved individuals were informed of "the Clarion County local rule" and were informed they need to speak with their attorneys.

CLARION TWP. Tpr. Ryan Wilson reports a child custody investigation was conducted at 6:34 p.m. Jan. 3 along U.S. Route 322 in Clarion Township. The victim is a 31-year-old St. Albans, W.V., man. Both involved individuals were informed of "the Clarion County local rule" and were informed they need to speak with their attorneys.

Three people cited for harassment

ASHLAND TWP. Tpr Evan Cyphert reports a 53-year-old woman, a 60-year-old man and a 15-year-old male, all of the Knox area, face charges of harassment at 4:20 p.m. Jan. 9 along Ninevah Road in Ashland Township after they allegedly were involved in an altercation with each other.

SUV crashes on I-80

BEAVER TWP. Tpr. Dylan Jarrett reports Kiron L. Green, 19, Flint, Mich., and his five minor passengers, ranging in age from 15 to 17, all of Flint, Mich., escaped injury at 2:27 p.m. Jan. 4 along eastbound Interstate 80 in Beaver Township when Green lost control of his 2002 GMC Yukon and struck a concrete barrier.

The vehicle crossed the centerline and struck another concrete barrier before coming to a stop. All occupants of the vehicle were wearing seat belts.

Green was cited for a traffic law violation.

Vehicle overturns

ELK TWP. Tpr. Ryan Drayer reports Richard K. Garland, 29, Clarion, escaped injury at 1:27 p.m. Jan. 8 along Pine City Road in Elk Township when he lost control of his 2002 Ford Explorer and struck a ditch.

The vehicle rolled onto its side. Garland was wearing a seat belt. He was cited for a traffic law violation.

Harassment alleged

CLARION TWP. Tpr. Ryan Drayer reports an investigation of alleged harassment at noon Jan. 3 along U.S. Route 322 in Clarion Township. The victim is an 11-year-old male. No further information was released.

False alarms

CLARION TWP. Tpr. Robert S. Hageter reports a 77-year-old Clarion man faces charges of making false alarms at 11:23 a.m. Nov. 10, 2019, and Jan. 6, 2020, at a Clarion Township location after police responded to false alarm devices and/or automatic dialing devices to at least five false alarms within a 12-month period.

Hit and run

PAINT TWP. Tpr. Jesse Kochara reports the driver of a tractor-trailer with Georgia license plates failed to properly negotiate a turn from Banner Road to Paint Mills Road at 8 a.m. Jan. 7 in Paint Township.

The tractor-trailer rig ran over a stop sign, two road signs, two mailboxes and a utility pole.

The driver of the rig did not stop to provide information to property owners.
