Man gets up to 280 years for sexual abuse of child

BROOKVILLE Jefferson County District Attorney Jeff Burkett announced last week Enos Hershberger, 44, formerly of Henderson Township, was declared as a sexually violent predator under Pennsylvania's Megan's Law and sentenced to 140 to 280 years in prison by the Jefferson County Court of Common Pleas.

In May, Hershberger was found guilty of 169 charges stemming from the sexual abuse of a child over a period of four years, beginning when the girl was about 4-years-old, according to a news release from Burkett's office.

The victim is now an adult.

The charges, the release said, included multiple counts of rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, incest and other related charges.

"I am very pleased with this sentence," Burkett said in the statement. "The victim had to endure years of awful sexual abuse at the hands of this man. She received no support from her family or her community throughout this process, but the power of truth overcame all of this. Justice was done and this man will not be able to do this ever again."
