Rape investigation

CLARION TWP. Tpr. Katherine Berggren reports an ongoing investigation into the alleged rape of a female victim sometime in November of 2019 and January of 2021 in Clarion Township. No further information was released.

DUIs alleged

WASHINGTON TWP. Tpr. Nash Rupp of the state police barracks at Marienville reports a 47-year-old Tionesta woman faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol at 10:13 p.m. Feb. 18 along State Route 298 at Shettler Road in Washington Township after she was stopped for a traffic law violation.

MARIENVILLE Tpr. Christopher Smith of the state police barracks at Marienville reports a 56-year-old Marienville man faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol at 2:31 p.m. Feb. 15 along Cherry Street in Marienville, Jenks Township, Forest County, after he was stopped for a traffic law violation. The suspect was released to Forest County probation agents and placed in the Warren County Jail.

Woman assaulted

BEAVER TWP. Tpr. Dylan Jarrett reports Jacob Bashline, 21, Knox, faces charges of assault at 6:24 a.m. Feb. 2 at Knox Commons in Beaver Township after he allegedly assaulted a 49-year-old Knox woman and a 19-year-old Knox man. The incident report was released Feb. 19. Bashline has waived his right to a preliminary hearing and remains free on bail.

Driver injured

PORTER TWP. Tpr. Evan Cyphert reports Robert L. Franklin, 31, Mayport, suffered suspected minor injuries at 11:05 a.m. Feb. 15 along State Route 66 in Porter Township when he lost control of his 2006 Hyundai Elantra and struck a utility pole.

Franklin was not wearing a seat belt. He was cited for a traffic law violation.

New Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Department, Clarion hospital EMS and Cornman Towing assisted at the scene.

Man arrested

CLARION TWP. Tpr. Brian Tanner reports a 51-year-old Clarion man faces charges of simple assault and harassment at 9:08 p.m. Feb. 11 along Brook Road in Clarion Township after state police reported to a domestic violence incident. The victim is a 61-year-old Clarion woman.

Internet harassment alleged

SHIPPENVILLE Tpr. Brian Tanner reports a 30-year-old Pittsfield man faces charges of harassment at 10:13 p.m. Feb. 15 in Shippenville after he allegedly posted threatening messages toward a 29-year-old Shippenville man on Facebook.

I-80 crash

BEAVER TWP. Tpr. Evan Cyphert reports Justin K. Kowinoski, 19, Clarion, escaped injury at 5 a.m. Feb. 13 along eastbound Interstate 80 at mile marker 56 in Beaver Township when he crashed his 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt. No further information was released. Kowinoski was cited for a traffic violation.

Dog scams

FARMINGTON TWP. -- Tpr. Nash Rupp of the state police barracks at Marienville reports two Farmington Township women (one in the Leeper area and one in the Vowinckel area) reported being scammed out of a combined $1,080 when they attempted to purchase dogs through the Internet Feb. 12.

State police advise the public to exercise extreme caution when any unknown online seller suggests payment by the use of gift cards or mobile financial apps.

Online extortion

JENKS TWP. State police at Marienville report an ongoing investigation of alleged extortion and/or blackmail of a Forest County resident Feb. 17 in Jenks Township. The victim told police they has sent a graphic photograph through an online dating site and then was contacted by an unknown suspect who demanded a payment to keep the photo private.
