Clarion Area's Arner joins orthopedics practice

PITTSBURGH Justin W. Arner, M.D. was born and raised in western Pennsylvania and graduated from Clarion Area High School in 2005.

He has joined the team at Burke and Bradley Orthopedics, Sports Medicine located at St. Margaret in Pittsburgh.

He will contribute his extensive knowledge of sports medicine to complete their medical group.

Additionally, he provides services to UPMC Harmar Surgery Center in Pittsburgh and Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.

Arner pursued specialized training with a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at the world-renowned Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo.

He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh. Later he graduated medical school at West Virginia University with honors and is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Additionally, Arner graduated with the highest honors (summa cum laude) from Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virginia where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree.

Sports medicine specialist

Arner is a sports medicine specialist focused on the surgical and non-surgical management of knee, shoulder, elbow, and hip injuries in Pittsburgh.

He has specialized training and technical expertise in complex shoulder and knee arthroscopy, shoulder instability surgery, cartilage and meniscus surgery, elbow surgery, and sports hip injuries.

Arner believes in individualized treatment for his patients with the highest level techniques and technologies.

Research and awards

He has published over 60 research papers and book chapters in prestigious scientific journals and given over 80 presentations both nationally and internationally. He has also won numerous national research awards and grants.

Arner's main research interests include anterior shoulder instability, posterior instability, shoulder arthritis, cartilage injury, knee ligament tears, athletic hip injuries, as well as other sports injuries.

He is a principal reviewer for the American Journal of Sports Medicine; an editorial board member for the Arthroscopy Journal; and is a reviewer for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, Sports Health, Foot and Ankle Specialist as well as The Physician and Sportsmedicine.

Sports team coverage

Arner is currently a team physician for the U.S. ski and snowboard team and travels as their doctor both nationally and internationally. He has provided medical care for the Pittsburgh Penguins and University of Pittsburgh athletics as well as numerous high schools.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife Clara as well as biking, skiing, traveling, and being active.

Arner was born and raised in Clarion and has a strong desire to help his local community improve their quality of life.
