Public stroke screening set

CLARION UPMC Northwest will offer free stroke screenings to the community from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the Main Street Senior Center, 516 Main Street in Clarion.

According to the American Stroke Association, stroke is the leading cause of major disability in the United States. The earlier a stroke is recognized and treated the greater chance of recovery.

The screenings will include:

lInformation about stroke and stroke risk assessment

lBlood testing for cholesterol (lipid profile total cholesterol, calculated LDL, HDL and triglycerides) and glucose screenings. A 12-hour fast is required for blood testing.

lComputerized body composition

lOsteoporosis screening

lCarotid artery check

lBlood pressure testing.
