PARKER - The annual New Year's Day plunge into the Allegheny River in Parker seems to get bigger and more interesting each year.
The 14th "Freezin' for a Reason" event drew more than 250 registered participants.
Money raised from the event supports Camo Cares, which organizes hunting trips for wounded veterans and children with life-threatening illnesses; the Boys and Girls Club; Parker and Emlenton fire departments; Emlenton Area Ambulance Service; and local families in need.
The temperature in Parker was 32 degrees at 2 p.m. when the participants gathered at the boat launch to take the plunge.
As shown in the photos on this page, participants take to the water in customs, swimming suits and street clothes.
