Smerkars celebrate 50th anniversary


Samuel Eugene and Anna Mae (Lauer) Smerkar will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, November 27, 2021.

Sam Smerkar and the former Ann Lauer were married November 27, 1971, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Fryburg by Father Richard Mayer.

Mr. Smerkar is the son of the late Raymond and Louise (Hartle) Smerkar of Fryburg and Mrs. Smerkar is the daughter of the late Thomas and Norma (Wolbert) Lauer of Shippenville.

They are the parents of three children, Samantha Schmader and her husband, Eric, of Fryburg; Erika and her fianc, Stew Fenigstein of Buffalo, N.Y.; and Ryan Smerkar and his wife, Julia, of Garrettsville, Ohio. They are also the proud grandparents of seven grandchildren, Abigail and Collin Schmader, Ava, Gavin, Fintan and Ronan Moore and Madelyn Smerkar.

Mr. Smerkar retired from North Clarion County Schools in 2017. He enjoys hunting and fishing.

Mrs. Smerkar retired from Farmers Mutual Insurance Company in 2018. She enjoys walking and gardening.

The couple loves spending time together with their children and grandchildren.

They marked this momentous occasion with a family celebration at Niagara Falls.
