Senior center activities

KNOX Activities and menus for the month of October for the Knox, Leeper and New Bethlehem Senior Centers have been set and are listed below.

Meal reservations for the Knox and Leeper centers should be made a day in advance by calling (814) 221-7869 or (814) 226-4640. Lunch for the New Bethlehem center should be made by Friday morning by calling (814) 221-7869 or (814) 226-4640.

lKnox Senior Center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays in the Knox fire hall. There menu and schedule is:

Oct. 8: 10:30 a.m., movement; 11 a.m., safety checks. Lunch is mango barbecue chicken breast, brown rice, coleslaw, wheat bread and warm apple cranberry crisp.

Oct. 15: 10:30 a.m., exercise; 11 a.m., Family Feud. Lunch is kielbasa with kraut topping, cheesy potatoes, green beans, hot dog roll and fresh seasonal fruit.

Oct. 22: 10:45 a.m. to 4 p.m., Visiting Nurses Association checks blood pressure; 11 a.m., program called "Herbs" presented by Melanie Krneta. Lunch is sloppy joe, ranch seasoned potatoes, lima beans, sandwich roll and mandarin oranges.

Oct. 29: 10 a.m., Halloween social; 11 a.m., bingo. Lunch is Greek chicken salad with chicken, olives, onion and tomato, mozzarella cheese, mixed greens with dressing, wedding soup with crackers, dinner roll and mandarin oranges.

lLeeper Senior Center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays and is located in the Farmington fire hall in Leeper. There activities and menu for October are:

Oct. 9: Cards; 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., VNA checks blood pressure; 11 a.m., "safety." Lunch is Swedish meatballs over pasta, peas, wheat bread and mixed fruit salad.

Oct. 16: Cards; 11 a.m., Clarview Rehabilitation leads exercise; 11:30 a.m., Country Springs Jingo. Lunch is white chicken chili, tossed salad with tomato and dressing, baked potato with margarine and sour cream, mini biscuit and cookie.

Oct. 23: Cards; 11 a.m., history chat and birthday celebration. Lunch is pumpkin alfredo chicken over pasta, tossed salad with tomato and dressing, Italian bread and pineapple tidbits.

Oct. 30: Cards, cards and more cards. Lunch is cottage pie (stewed beef and vegetables in gravy), mashed potatoes, coleslaw, biscuit and warm cinnamon applesauce.

lNew Bethlehem Senior Center is open from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Mondays and is located in the Redbank Valley Community Center. Their activities and menus for October are:

Oct. 11: Shopping at Butler Mall and lunch at Ponderosa ($5).

Oct. 14: 10 a.m., nickel bingo; 11 a.m., "Funky Hair Do." Lunch is lasagna with meat sauce topped with mozzarella, tossed salad with cucumber and dressing, breadstick and peaches.

Oct. 21: 10 a.m., nickel bingo and Visiting Nurses Association checks blood pressure; 11 a.m., Head start kids with craft, activity and snack. Lunch is country fried chicken gravy, whipped potatoes with chives, mixed vegetables, wheat bread and fresh fruit.

Oct. 26: 9:30 a.m., bus trip to Keystone Safari.

Oct. 28: 10 a.m., nickel bingo; 11 a.m., Halloween bingo. Lunch is creamy chicken divan over white rice, tossed salad with tomato and dressing, bread stick and peaches.
