It has been a tumultuous time for the Clarion Area wrestling program the past couple months but the program seems to have found some stability.
At the Clarion Area School Board meeting Nov. 10, Clarion hired a total of four new coaches for its varsity and junior high wrestling programs while also agreeing to enter into a wrestling cooperative agreement with the Union School District.
The board unanimously approved the following wrestling program hires; Lee Weber as the varsity head coach at $5,288, Rob Sintobin as the varsity assistant coach at $4,433, Braun Gourley as junior high wrestling coach $2,412 and John Stiglitz as assistant junior high wrestling coach at $2,022.
During the school board work session Nov. 4, there was a discussion of low numbers affecting the wrestling program heading into the 2020-21 season. There was a feeling wrestlers were reluctant to sign up because the program did not have a head coach in place. Former Clarion head coach Brian Luton resigned in September.
The board also unanimously approved entering into a wrestling cooperative agreement with Union. Clarion Area is also in wrestling cooperatives with Clarion-Limestone, Keystone and North Clarion.
