ALDI not looking at Comet lot

Contrary to rumors floating around the Clarion area, ALDI is not currently considering the Comet Food Warehouse property as a new for a new or expanded store.
Comet announced last week it will close its Clarion location in the coming weeks or months.
In an email response to the CLARION NEWS, ALDI Saxonburg Division Vice President J.R. Perry denied any information presently available indicating a potential second ALDI's store opening at the site.
"At this time, we do not have any information to share about ALDI potentially opening a second store in Clarion," the response reads. "However, as part of our aggressive national growth plan, ALDI is currently exploring expansion opportunities in multiple markets from coast to coast."
The inquiry into prospective ALDI plans comes after news broke Aug. 5 of Comet's impending closure.
According to company statements, Comet's parent company and building owner, Jefferson Wholesale, has been searching for an eventual replacement to its soon to be vacant building.
ALDI opened it Clarion Location several years ago along State Route 68 in Monroe Township.
While Comet Food Warehouse endured two summers of road construction at its entrance and cited that as a contributing factor in the store's closing, ALDI's store now finds itself in the same predicament.
Road construction from Exit 62 north to near the Comet location is expected to last this summer and next.
