CLARION - The reassessment of all properties in Clarion County has begun starting in Clarion Borough and Clarion Township.

Two Clarion County recreation projects Sept. 20 received funding approval totaling more than $265,000 through the Commonwealth Financing Authority. The funding comes from Act 13 impact fees and is set aside for greenways, trail and recreation projects.

"I'm very concerned about this (vacancy)," said Keystone School District Acting Superintendent Michael McCormick. "There are not many teachers getting certified (in this field)."

In an effort to attract more poll workers Clarion County has increased the daily rate of pay for all election workers. The judge of election will receive $160 per election day; the minority inspector $155 per election day and the majority inspector and clerk $145 per election day.

The announcement that the California Air Resources Board will ban the sale of gas-powered cars entirely by 2035 created a wide range of responses from other states, including Pennsylvania.

Clarion County Director of Elections Cindy Callihan is expected to officially announce her retirement today (Sept. 27) after nearly 40 years with the county. Her retirement is effective Oct. 1, but she will remain on as a part-time employee until after the 2022 general election.

Water runoff is an issue which seems to keep popping up for the Shippenville Borough Council and the assembled body discussed the issue at its Sept. 14 meeting.

The Keystone School Board is considering $3.5 million in renovations to the district's elementary school, and like most things these days, supply chain issues could affect the project.

"We have a real problem folks, and it's going to take the whole community to solve it," said Farmington Township Supervisor Chuck Gilbert. "It's going to take the whole community and will take the county and the state, too."

CLARION - Clarion Borough's "National Night Out" proved to be a big success with the community coming out to meet law enforcement officers and emergency personnel from fire companies and EMS units.

WASHINGTON TWP. - Time is running out for the Washington Township Municipal Authority and authority board member and township resident Kevin McCauley to come to an agreement regarding the proposed sewage line extension.

HARRISBURG - The second and final round of municipal funding from the American Rescue Plan is scheduled to hit the bank accounts of Clarion County's townships and boroughs sometime around Sept. 12.

CLARION - "Brandon's Dad," a local non-profit organization focusing on DUI prevention, recently earned a $40,000 Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board Reducing Underage Drinking and Dangerous Drinking Grant.

PAINT TWP. - Clarion County Jail Warden Jeff Hornberger Aug. 5 said supply chain issues have impacted two projects at the lock-up, but added one of the projects might be coming to a conclusion.

ASHLAND TWP. - The supervisor shuffle continued at Ashland Township this month as supervisors Tim Lenhart and Chuck Weaver accepted the resignation of supervisor Dave Seigworth and appointed Jon Macormac to the vacant seat.

State police in Clarion filed charges against Knox resident Levi Michael Barrett, 28, in relation to an early morning incident on Aug. 8 in Beaver Township, which forced the closure of Route 338 and various side roads while police searched for the male victim in the case.

Butler state police said three people died in a two-vehicle crash late Monday afternoon in which a Clarion County man was involved.
