KNOX - Knox Borough Council is seeking employment applications for two positions a part-time police officer and a full-time maintenance supervisor.
Part-time police officer Justin Swartzfager, hired Oct. 11, 2021, tendered his resignation Dec. 20. No reason for the resignation was provided. It was noted by Knox Borough Police Chief Nicole L. Bauer that Swartzfager also resigned from his part-time position in Emlenton around the same time.
Council members agreed to advertise for applications for the position.
Council also agreed to advertise for a maintenance supervisor as Jeff "Woody" McCleary announced his intent to retire from that position around the end of February.
Council members noted it is possible one of the current maintenance employees could "move up" to the supervisory position and create an opening for a crew member.
Infrastructure projects to begin soon
Marty English, an engineer with The EADS Group, told the Jan. 3 meeting of borough council he believed Columbia Gas was anticipating starting its line replacement project the week of Jan. 10.
The gas line project should be underway when the borough begins its two water line replacement projects.
The first project involves work along East Penn Avenue with added work along Ohio Street. That contract totals $1,222,222. The first project's cost is covered by grant funding from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority.
The second project includes South Main and Petrolia streets and totals $1,598,865. The cost of that project is covered by the PennVEST low-interest loan and grant.
The projects will affect 106 service connections, seven hydrants and 34 main line water valves.
With council's approval of an engineering agreement with The EADS Group, English said work on the water line replacement projects could begin around the first of March.
English noted some of the streets affected by the gas and water line replacement work will be repaved in October, with the gas company and the borough sharing the costs.
