The number of new COVID-19 cases reported in zip codes serving Clarion County for the seven day period of Jan. 5 to 11 was 191, an increase of about 20 new cases over the previous week's total.

The total number of new COVID-19 cases reported in zip codes serving Clarion County the previous week (Dec. 29-Jan. 4) was 170, however, the state Department of Health had warned those numbers might have been lower than expected due to a computer problem.

For the fourth consecutive week, the Marienville zip code topped the area with 64 new cases reported. That number is up from 36 the previous week.

The Marienville zip code includes the state correctional facility located there.

As of Jan. 11, the state prison reported having 29 "active" COVID-19 cases among inmates and another 11 "active" cases among staff members.

Those numbers are almost doubled from last week when the state prison reported having 14 "active" COVID-19 cases among inmates and another six "active" cases among staff members.

According to data collected from several sources and compiled at the website "Main Line Mama," an independent data complier, after the Marienville zip code, the New Bethlehem and Clarion zip codes again remained the highest "hot spots" in the county.
