CLARION - The American Rescue Plan will fund a third round of Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief and will pump $14,727,099 into Clarion County's public schools districts.

Over all, with the first round of state-backed ESSER funding in May of 2020 and the second round in January of 2021, Clarion County's public school districts have received nearly $23 million in COVID-19 relief funding.

According to information released last week, ESSER III will include:

Allegheny-Clarion Valley -- $1,579,284

Clarion Area -- $2,392,854

Clarion-Limestone -- $1,796,664

Keystone -- $2,097,097

North Clarion -- $1,782,442

Redbank Valley -- $2,080,352

Union -- $1,505,772

Forest Area School District is set to gain $1,492,634 with the third round of ESSERS funding and overall has received $2,361,737 in COVID-19 related funding.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Education, each school district will receive an amount proportional to the federal Title I-A funds received in 2020 under the Every Student Succeeds Act.

Funds must be used by September 2024. School districts must apply to PDE to obtain their allocated funds.

The school districts must use at least 20 percent of the ESSERS III funding to address learning loss and the social, emotional, and academic needs of underrepresented students, including students from low-income families, students with disabilities, English learners, migrant students, students experiencing homelessness, and children in foster care.

Schools can use the rest of the funding for a wide range of activities, including food service; professional training; technology purchases; sanitization and cleaning supplies; summer and after-school programs; and mental health supports.
