"Sligo Spa by Katie Elder" celebrated its launch with ribbon-cutting ceremony April 19 along Colerain Street in Sligo.
The business opened to the public March 25. The ribbon-cutting celebration was attended by Elder's friends and her husband, Kevin; along with Tracy Reinsel, coordinator, Entrepreneurial Leadership Center Outreach consultant, at the Clarion University Small Business Development Center; Diane Porter from state Rep. Donna Oberlander's office and Clarion County Commissioner Wayne Brosius.
As the sole owner, operator and employee, Elder provides a variety of spa services ranging from lash lifts, tints and extension to a complete line of facial services including microdermabrasion, dermaplaning and chemical peels.
Elder, 35, is originally from the Erie area. She attended Clarion University and she and her husband moved to Sligo in 2006, where Kevin Elder had family.
The Elders returned to the Erie area in 2019 but returned to Sligo in 2019 and ended up purchasing their home (which includes the spa) at 432 Colerain Street, almost directly across the street from the home in which they previously lived.
Elder has been in the business since 2017 when she became state-licensed in aesthetics and nail care. Since that time, Elder has obtained her state license to teach those subjects.
Reinsel was on hand to help Elder with the ribbon-cutting as the Clarion University Small Business Development Center helped Elder get set up and licensed.
"We assisted with her getting legally structured in Pennsylvania," explained Reinsel.
