CLARION - Pete Bauer of Clarion has announced his candidacy for a Democratic Party nomination for Clarion Borough Council in the May 18 primary election.

Bauer submitted the following announcement:

"I'm running for Clarion Borough Council for you.I was born and raised in Clarion, but for the past 34 years have lived in the greater Washington D.C. area.

"Over those years, while visiting with friends and relatives, I witnessed the slow erosion of our community that has lost significant employers, leading to a community that seems to be treading water to keep afloat.

"Aside from the university, it has little to offer that would entice a young family to move here.

"I am passionate that we need to change course, or what we all fondly remember of this once thriving community will be but a distant, ever-fading memory.

"We need to be proactive in making Clarion a better place to live, work, and shop.

"I am asking for your vote for me to become a change advocate on your behalf.I offer you in return regular communication and transparency on issues that will improve the borough.

"I live at 750 Liberty Street and welcome you to stop by and meet with me and to share your input on both concerns and ideas on improving the borough."
