WGC helps winterize children's gardens

CLARION The Children's Education Center at the YMCA is involved with learning about gardening and took part in the process of preparing a garden for winter time.

The Children's Gardens at the Clarion County YMCA have been "put to bed" for the winter.

Following a short lesson on composting, the children were given instructions on using child-size shovels and cultivators. They began their work in the three garden trugs.

The WGC received a Plant America Grant for 2019 from the National Garden Clubs of America.

The garden trugs were built by two Industrial Arts students at the Clarion County Career Center and they installed them at the YMCA in May.

The children from the Children's Education Center planted the gardens with seeds and plants, including herbs and strawberries.

Next spring the children will continue their gardening education by planting their gardens again.
