Elk board buys generator

By Rodney L. Sherman

The Elk Township Board of Supervisors this month approved the $9,400 purchase and installation of a back-up generator at the township building.

Supervisor Dave Polatty said Glenn Electric of Clarion will install the 200-pound, 18-kilowatt Generac unit.

Polatty said the township asked for quotes from three companies, but Glenn Electric was the only contractor that responded.

The natural-gas powered generator is designed to automatically start and begin supplying electricity when the regular electrical supply goes down.

The need for the generator has been the topic of discussion in Elk Township for some time, and moved to forefront after electrical service was interrupted during the last general election.
