Today, Sept. 16, is National Play-Doh Day. Play-Doh inventor, Joe McVicker, sold it initially as a wallpaper cleaner. In 1955, McVicker began testing the cleaner as a modeling clay in classrooms and daycares for students. Captain Kangaroo promoted the modeling clay on his show and the children's iconic modeling clay took off.
