Less commentary; same bad picks

Due to space limitations, my picks column will be brief this week (lucky you).

I mean what do you need to know? The Pittsburgh Steelers weren't prepared for their opener and the Miami Dolphins stink. Oakland doesn't look as bad as everyone thought it would and maybe the Cleveland to the Super Bowl hype train can take a break.

The one loss I had in my picks was a big miss. I picked Keystone to lose to Cambridge Springs and the Panthers went out and absolutely dominated the Blue Devils by a 56-7 score. I mean, the outcome of that one made me look like a dope (which isn't hard).

My record would have also been better if I would have actually attached a score to the Coudersport-Sheffield contest but I am a moron. I keep trying to tell you.

Last week's record: 8-1

Overall: 25-4

District 9 Large School

Clarion (3-0 overall, 3-0 District 9 Large School) at Brookville (3-0, 3-0)

It's the second week in a row Clarion will battle another unbeaten team and look for this one to go much the same way for the Bobcats as last week's game did.

Clarion 35, Brookville 14

Moniteau (0-3, 0-3) at Karns City (2-1, 2-1)

They say when it comes to a rivalry, "you can throw the records out the window." That might be the case, but I think Karns City is the more complete team which will rebound from its loss to Clarion.

Karns City 42, Moniteau 7

Punxsutawney (0-3, 0-3) at St. Marys (2-1, 2-1)

Don't look now, but St. Marys head coach Chris Dworek has the Flying Dutch hitting on all cylinders. I see St. Marys keeping the momentum going against a Punxsutawney team which has struggled scoring points.

St. Marys 33, Punxsutawney 6

Brockway (0-3, 0-3) at Kane (3-0, 3-0)

Kane just keeps rolling along. I don't see the Wolves struggling against a Brockway team which has given up over 40 points in two of its three losses.

Kane 45, Brockway 14

Bradford (0-3, 0-3) at Ridgway (2-1, 2-1) at Johnsonburg

Ridgway keeps pace in the District 9 Large School race with a win here.

Ridgway 37, Bradford 6

District 9 Small School

Cameron County (0-2 overall) at Keystone (2-1)

I made a mistake last week concerning Keystone. It won't happen this week. It looks like the Panthers are hitting their stride.

Keystone 55, Cameron County 6

Otto Eldred (1-2) at Union/A-C Valley (2-1) at Union High School

Union/A-C Valley's run defense was something to behold last week against Curwensville. Now what can the Falcon Knights do against Otto-Eldred's spread attack?

Union/A-C Valley 30, Otto-Eldred 20

Sheffield (0-3) at Redbank Valley (3-0)

The Bulldogs passed a major road test last week at Elk County Catholic. Look for the Bulldogs to keep their momentum.

Redbank Valley 47, Sheffield 6

Elk County Catholic (1-2) at Port Allegany (1-2)

This is almost a must-win for both teams if they hope to keep pace in the District 9 Class A playoff race.

Elk County Catholic 23, Port Allegany 21

Curwensville (1-2) at Smethport (2-0)

These two teams seem to be heading in opposite directions. Look for the trend to continue this week.

Smethport 27, Curwensville 7
