CLARION - Clarion University Soccer will be hosting its fourth annual Futsal Soccer League starting in January. Kicking off seven Sundays of indoor soccer for local youth ages 4 through high school seniors.

WHEN: The Futsal Camp will run every Sunday afternoon from Jan. 12 through Feb. 23.

FORMAT: The Futsal camp will be run as a series of organized indoor soccer games each Sunday.

There is a Young Eagles 4-6 year-old division, a youth division for ages 7 through 15, and a high school division for high-school-age teams and club teams.

PRE-GAME COACHING SESSIONS: In the Youth Division, there will be a 20-minute pre-game coaching session for the two teams who are competing in that hour of the schedule. Players will go through a warmup and skills training led by coaching staff and the Clarion women's soccer team. Following this, the two teams will play a game of two 18- minute periods.

YOUNG EAGLES DIVISION: Campers will have fun learning how to perform basic soccer skills and apply them in various fun team games. Runs every Sunday at Noon for 55 minutes and will be coached by several Clarion University staff.

YOUTH DIVISION: Campers will sign up and be allocated to a team in their appropriate age division. Each team will be coached by a designated college student from the Clarion Women's Soccer team. Area club teams may also sign up as a team. The Youth Division is grouped by age with 7-10 year-olds in one group, and 11-15 year-olds in another group. Boys and girls play on the same teams and are equally divided amongst the teams.

HIGH SCHOOL DIVISION: For high school players we are again offering a six-team Women's Division and a six-team men's division. Games will consist of two 25-minute periods, and the referee will be a neutral Clarion University player or coach.

TEAM STRUCTURE: Teams will be comprised of a goalie and four field players, with team rosters ranging from 8 to 15 players. Anybody can sign up between ages 4 and high school senior. No soccer experience necessary. Club and high school teams are also encouraged to sign up and play as a group, maximum of 12 players on a roster.

PARTICIPANTS: We have the following camper divisions: Young Eagles 4-6 (30 Spots), Youth 7-10 (Six Teams), Youth 11-15 (six Teams), a High School Men's division (Six Teams), and a High School women's Division (Six Teams). Once filled, no more teams acceptable.

SCHEDULES: Campers will receive a game schedule so that they know exactly what times their team is scheduled each Sunday. Campers will participate in one, sometimes two games each Sunday, depending on the number of teams in the schedule. There will be no practices or other events, just organized futsal games and the Youth Division coaching sessions.

VENUE: All games will be played in the new state- of-the-art facility, Tippin Gymnasium off Greenville Pike in Clarion. The flooring is a brand new, first class, wooden basketball playing surface.

GEAR: Teams will be issued pinneys supplied by Clarion Soccer that must be returned at the end of each game. Players must wear a t-shirt, soccer shorts, soccer socks, shin guards (mandatory), indoor soccer shoes (preferable) or tennis shoes. Players must bring their own water bottles.

GAME FORMAT: Futsal rules will apply, with some Clarion modifications to keep the games fun. Games will be organized to run on the hour on each of two basketball-sized courts. Youth Division games will be 18-minute halves plus a two-minute halftime. High school division games will be 2x25-minute halves with a three-minute half-time. Each team will play one, possibly two games each Sunday.

COST: The cost for the entire seven-week Clarion Indoor Futsal Soccer League is just $75 per player.

REGISTRATION: Players can sign up as individuals OR as part of a club or high-school team.

TEAM REGISTRATION: If signing up as a team, there is a maximum of 12 players to a roster, and the team manager or coach must complete the "Team Registration" form.

INDIVIDUAL REGISTRATION: If signing up as an individual, you will be allocated to a team by coaching staff and must complete the "Individual Registration" form.


ERIE - The Erie Sports Commission is announced that Erie will serve as the host destination for the 2020 TNT Fireworks B.A.S.S. Nation Northeast Regional Championship. The competition, part of Bassmaster's B.A.S.S. Nation Series, will be held June 24 through June 26.

More than 220 anglers are expected to take part in the event. Competing anglers will represent state associations from throughout B.A.S.S. Nation's Northeastern Region, which encompasses 11 states (Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and Delaware) and Spain.

The top boater and non-boater from each state will advance to the B.A.S.S. Nation Championship, where the top three anglers will qualify for the Academy Sports and Outdoors Bassmaster Classic.

The Erie tournament is being supported locally by Presque Isle Downs & Casino, FishUSA, Universal Metal Systems, Alex Roofing Inc. and the Bel-Aire Clarion Hotel.

Official tournament practice days will be held June 22 and June 23 in advance of the competition. Weigh-ins each day will be hosted at Perry Monument on Presque Isle State Park.

B.A.S.S. Nation will host its other 2020 regional championships in Okeechobee, Fla. (Southeastern), Henderson, Nev. (Western), Many, La. (Central) and Tower, Minn. (Northern). Erie had previously hosted the B.A.S.S. Nation Mid-Atlantic Divisional in 2013.
